Mabel Walker

Mabel Jane Walker, 95, died Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at Houston House.

She was born Dec. 8, 1913, in Dykes, daughter of Edward Lee and Emma Viola Coble Collins. She and Rollie Walker were married June 17, 1931.

She grew up in the Dykes area and attended Ragsdale School. She enjoyed working in her garden, cooking for her family and being around small children. She was faithful in attending church as long as her health permitted.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; two sisters, Fern Vandiver and Faye Sillyman; a brother, Homer Collins; two grandsons; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

Survivors include two daughters, Bernice of Fairview and Viola of Houston; two sons, Fred Walker and Don Walker of Houston; three half sisters, Nora Lee Hutsell of Houston, Bonnie Odle of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Sue Hensley of Kansas City; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 33 great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Jett and Pastor Clint Massey officiating. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Emery Cemetery.
