Troy H. Benefiel, son of Charles and Cora Medlock Benefiel, was born Nov. 24, 1912, at Raymondville, Mo. He passed away at Quail Creek Skilled Nursing Center in Springfield, Mo., Nov. 30, 2008.
He was married to Orba Lucille Bandy, daughter of Otis and May McCubbins Bandy, on February 4, 1939. They were residents of Houston for more than 55 years.
Troy went to school in Yukon. He farmed and logged in Yukon and worked at Fort Leonard Wood prior to working with the MO State Highway Department. He retired in 1964.
He loved going to church and was regularly attending First Freewill Baptist Church up until a few years ago when his health began to decline. He loved the Lord and during the last few months he often said he was ready to go home to be with the Lord.
Troy was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Orba; and a sister, Lucille Benefiel Hartzog.
He leaves to mourn his passing his loving and devoted son, Larry Lee Benefiel, and wife Karen of Derby, Kan.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Benefiel of Yukon; and a sister, Velma Benefiel Burnley of St. Louis, Mo.
Troy loved fishing and hunting. He always looked forward to deer season, when his son, Larry, made a point of coming to Houston every year to look for the “big buck.” In the summer one would not have to look far to find both Troy and Larry fishing at one of the ponds on the farm fishing for the biggest catfish they could land.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, who are looking forward to their reunion in Heaven.
