Kendra Welch scored a season-high 23 points, including eight straight in a pivotal third-quarter stretch, as the Houston Lady Tigers downed Norwood 58-48 Friday night.
Erica Keeney scored nine points and Holly Thomas had eight before fouling out for the Lady Tigers (2-3), who broke a 38-all tie with a 16-6 run to create breathing room.
Welch jump-started the rally with a pair of 3-pointers and layin while being fouled for a personal 8-0 run. It would have been nine points, but her ensuing free throw was negated by a lane violation.
After a pair of 3s by Norwood’s Jordan Gray, Houston scored eight unanswered points – all at the foul line – to go ahead 54-44.
Marci Ramilo had 21 points for Norwood, which was 5-for-21 at the foul line.
JUNOR VARISTY: Kelsi Adey scored 12 points to lead the JV Lady Tigers past Norwood 31-18.
Jessica Herndon hit a pair of 3-pointers en route to six points for Houston.
