A Cabool man was arrested New Year’s Day and charged with the November death of his 4-year-old stepdaughter.
Daniel Lamborn, 24, faces felony abuse of a child resulting in death charges following an investigation by multiple agencies. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
Lamborn gave authorities multiple accounts of the moments leading to Camille Fayte Denis’ Nov. 22 death, Sgt. Travis Davis of the Texas County Sheriff’s Department said in a probable cause statement. He initially told Davis that a large toy box had fallen on the girl’s chest. The injury would have been consistent with asphyxiation, which coroner Tom Whittaker initially believed was the cause of death.
An autopsy revealed a laceration to the child’s heart. When confronted with the information, Davis said Lamborn admitted he had lied about the toy box. Davis said Lamborn gave several accounts, including tossing the girl in the air, stepping on her and falling on her with his forearm, before requesting an attorney.
Davis said Lamborn was the only adult home with two children.
The Missouri Department of Social Services State Technical Assistance Team and Texas County Children’s Division assisted in the case.
