The Missouri Conservation Department will offer a workshop of prescribed burning for county property owners from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19.

Prescribed burning is used to improve habitat for quail and other small game species, as well as controlling weeds, brush and help insure diversity of plants in the wildlife food chain, said Lesly Holt, private land conservationist with the Missouri Department of Conservation.

She said it is also an important tool used in maintaining and improving native grasses. The purpose of the workshop is to help landowners evaluate when the best conditions exist and how to use them in a safe manner to achieve the desire results.
