University Extension announced plans to organize the “Houston Community Garden,” which will produce items for the county food pantry, residents and create business opportunities in the county, it said.
It hopes to involve a cross section of the community – Master Gardeners, 4-H youth, gardening students, local residents and high school culinary and food management classes.
University Extension says parts of the garden are grown collectively, with everyone working together; others are split into clearly divided plots – each managed by a different gardener. Most have both “common areas” with shared upkeep and individual/family plots. To learn more, visit www.communitygarden.org.
Texas County coordinating members are listed as: Joleen Durham, Jeri Boyd, Mark Klatt, Barbara Romines, Jim and Jo Holland and Charles Lee Sr., all of Houston.
