Sales taxes collected by merchants in Texas County took a dive during the latest monthly distribution, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.

Revenue dropped about 18 percent on each of three half-cent sales taxes collected in the county. The total for general fund sales tax was $61,272, which is a decrease of $13,641 from the same period a year ago.

Two other half-cent sales taxes – for debt repayment on the Texas County Justice Center and general operations – totaled about $61,300 each, which was down about $13,700 on each.

The reports are considered a good barometer of economic activity.
