Dale Norris, 83, of Hacienda Heights, Calif., died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at a hospice house in Whittier, Calif.
He was born April 6, 1925, near Simmons, son of Richard “Dick” and Mae Norris. He and Shirley Leaf were married June 14, 1945, in Richmond, Calif.
He grew up in the Clara area. He served in the Navy from September 1943 to October 1945. He survived the sinking of the USS Ommaney Bay, an aircraft carrier in the Pacific.
After his discharge from the Army, he lived with his family in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, before moving to California in 1949. He retired from Chrysler Corp. in 1967 following a work-related injury.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Wayne Norris and Jim Norris.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley of the home; two children, Steve Norris of Santa Ana, Calif., and Janice Janssen of Yorba Linda, Calif.; four grandchildren; two step-granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beulah White and Ima Jean Randall of Houston; and many nieces and nephews.
Military services and burial were Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, Calif.
