Hall says he will return to basketball sidelines next season

First-year Houston boys’ basketball coach Brent Hall, who accepted the position last summer on an interim basis, said Wednesday morning that he will continue his role with the Tigers next year.

Hall, who also coaches the high school baseball team, said he informed administrators in January that he would return.

“I told them I’d do it for another year and to be truthful, probably longer if they will allow me,” Hall said. “I don’t see anyone who will come in here and dedicate their time and be here for the kids. I think I can do that. I plan on being here, and I’m definitely going to put the time in.”

Hall said before the season that he would base his decision on how the kids responded to him. The Tigers are 10-11 after Tuesday’s 50-44 victory at Ava.

“I think Tuesday night went a long way in their confidence in me and my confidence in them,” Hall said.

Even with baseball season around the corner, Hall said he remains committed to the basketball team. He said he has met with his assistant baseball coaches and will hand them the reins when practice begins Monday.

“I’ll be thinking about baseball, but I can honestly tell you basketball will be my primary focus,” Hall said.

“I’m thankful I have good help with coach (Ed) Edington and coach (Bud) Evans. They’ll continue the path I want the team to take. Whenever I get done (with basketball), I’ll be able to step in and feel almost like I’ve been there.”
