In today’s struggling economy, going back to work is a reality for many seniors. Experience Works is a national, nonprofit organization that helps seniors get the training they need to find good jobs in their local communities.

Established as Green Thumb in 1965 and renamed in 2002, Experience Works provides services at no cost to seniors age 55 and older who are unemployed and meet income guidelines.

Seniors are given anopportunity to update their job skills through paid, on-the-job trainingassignments in public and nonprofit agencies. The paid training is intended to be short term and a stepping-stone to help older workers find permanent jobs in their local communities.

Anne Hutchison is the local employment and training coordinator serving Texas County, as well as Douglas, Howell, Laclede, Oregon, Ozark, Pulaski, Webster and Wright. “Our goal is to empower seniors so they can become self-sufficient, and that’s important in these tough economic times,” she said.

Paid training opportunities are available for qualified applicants throughout the area. For more information about Experience Works, contact Hutchison at 417-926-4551 or toll free at 800-368-7569.
