Oscar A. Thomason, 88, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at Missouri Veteran’s Home in St. James.

He was born March 4, 1920, in Rhyse, son of Henry Mathis Thomason and Myrtle May Plank Thomason. He and Irene Foley were married July 29, 1939.

He served in the Army during WWII. Upon discharge, he worked in St. Louis before moving to south-central Missouri and working for Coy Scott.

He and Irene lived near Kimble, where they farmed until 1979. They moved closer to Licking, where he enjoyed working in his garden.

He served on the Sherrill Township Board for many years. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church in Licking for 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife; 12 siblings, Luther, Doyle, Roy, Jessie, Paul, Hubert, Bill Lee, Nola Dalton, Ola Brown, Mamie Ray, Paulene Kenner and Clarice Maples; and a granddaughter

Survivors include a daughter, Glenda Sue Seim of St. Louis; three grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Nelson of Salem and Maxine Matlock of Washington; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services were Saturday, Feb. 21, at First Baptist Church in Licking with Pastor Robert Gifford and Dr. Wilbur Mobley officiating. Burial was in Licking Cemetery under the direction of Fox Funeral Home.
