Stoutland scored 28 third-quarter points to pull away from the Houston Tigers for a 71-56 victory Thursday night at Hiett Gymnasium.
The loss spoiled Senior Night for the Tigers, who open Class 3 District 10 play at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against Willow Springs. All games are at Cabool High School.
The night began by recognizing seniors Travis Barker, Ty Scheets, David Weybright and Ryan O’Neil and their parents. It was followed by a moment of silence for longtime Houston supporter and fan Larry Southern. The seniors provided gifts and shared hugs with Southern’s family, who surprised coach Brent Hall with a framed photo of Southern. They also gave T-shirts to every high school boys’ basketball player in Southern’s honor.
Stoutland, which led by seven points following a foul-plagued first half, quickly pulled away at the beginning of the third quarter and led by 19 less than four minutes into the second half.
Kyle Poynter led the Tigers with 21 points. Tyler DeWitt scored 10 as the only other player in double figures.
JUNIOR VARSITY: Justin Buchholz and Curry Van Horn combined for 47 points to lead the JV Tigers to a 71-59 victory Thursday against Stoutland in their season finale.
Buchholz scored 25 and Van Horn, who hit five 3-pointers, had 22. The Tigers finished with a 13-12 record under coach Willy Walker.
