Anna Belle Ballard, 89, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at her daughter’s home in Plato.

She was born Dec. 21, 1919, in Marion, Ohio, daughter of Lewis E. and Margaret Hull Doolittle. She and Carlos Ballard were married Aug. 9, 1937. He died in 1974.

She lived most of her life and raised her family near Marion, Ohio.

She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, knitting, making quilts and ceramics. She was an avid doll collector and loved to dance. She did the “chicken dance” at her great-granddaughter’s wedding two years ago.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; and a son, Danny Ballard, on Oct. 25, 2001.

Survivors include seven children, Betty Messenger of Plato, Carol Doyle of Neosho, Carlos Ballard Jr. of Houston, Teddy Ballard and Nancy Miller of Marion, Ohio, Marilyn Ballard of Cabool and Sally Guinn of Dayton, Ohio; 27 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 1-2 p.m. today (Thursday) at Cedar Bluff Baptist Church in Falcon. Services follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Terry Snelling officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
