Downtown Houston Inc. kicked off its annual membership drive last week.
The group has spearheaded downtown revitalization efforts that include work associated with a grant that brought new lighting, sidewalks and other improvements. It also developed the Lone Star Plaza, which redeveloped a burned lot at Pine Street and Grand Avenue after a fire in 1999.
Its work also resulted in the development of a Brushy Creek hillside and rehabilitation of the former Haney Market near U.S. 63 and Oak Hill Drive.
Its strong membership has been used to tap several grants and tax credit programs. Anyone who didn’t receive a mailing can contact Kathy Richardson, Vera Gladden, Susan Warkentin or Charlie McKinney for membership information.
