Mamie Jewell Fourt Swan, 97, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, in Berkeley, Calif.
She was born Oct. 14, 1911, near Houston, daughter of Ransom Wyatt and Goldie Todd Fourt. She and John Martin Swan were married in 1938. He died in 1995.
She attended Houston Schools and graduated in 1930. Upon graduation, she lived with her aunt and uncle in Boise, Idaho, where she worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Co.
She lived in Boise, Idaho, for 74 years and was a member of Whitney United Methodist Church for 60 years. She moved to California in 2004 to be near her two sons.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; two sisters, Alice Crawford and Velma Fourt; and a brother, Bill Fourt.
Survivors include two sisters, Mildred Melton and Juanita Hart of Houston; two sons, John of Boise, Idaho, and Sam of Berkeley, Calif., four granddaughters; four great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were Friday, Feb. 20, at Dry Creek Cemetery in Boise, Idaho.
