The Animal Shelter of Texas County expanded its operational hours Monday.

It will now be open from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

It is hoped the new hours will better accommodate those wanting to adopt animals.

The organization announced several activities in March:

*Its meeting is 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 16, at Houston Housing Authority’s quarters on Chestnut Street.

*A percentage of sales at Pizza Hut in Houston will go to the animal shelter from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 18.

*Friday, March 20, is Texas County Cat Healthcare Day. Reduced prices are featured for spay/neuter and a rabies vaccination at veterinarians in the county.

*Volunteer Training Day is Sunday, March 22, at the animal shelter on East Highway 17. For more information, phone 417-967-0700.

*A bake sale and volunteer drive are planned for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 27-28 at Houston Wal-Mart Supercenter.
