Services for longtime Houston businessman Duard William Akins, 94, of Springfield, were April 13, 2009, in Springfield’s Greenlawn Funeral Home South.
Born Nov. 12, 1914, at Cabool to Guy Sr. and Melva Akins, he was the owner of Akins Motor Co. in Houston for 47 years before his retirement in 1980.
He graduated with the Houston High School class of 1933.
He married Dorothy Sue Coats, who preceded him in death after 50 years of marriage.
A member of the First Baptist Church in Houston and Springfield, he enjoyed quail hunting, golf and playing card games. He was a former member of the Houston City Council. He also was a Shriner and Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Leonard, Nolan and Guy Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian; a son, Roger; daughters, Susan Ann Moberly and Nancy Elizabeth Brackett; stepchildren, Rick Kessinger, Beverly Thieme and Barbara Riebold; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Burial was in the Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield.
