Andrew Finn, Tyler Guynn and Michael Shea earned singles victories in the Houston tennis team’s 6-3 loss Thursday to Willow Springs.

Finn won 9-7, and Guynn and Shea squeaked out identical 9-8 (3) victories.

In JV play, Alex Ceplina won 6-4.

“I feel we are hitting the ball much better and consistently,” Houston coach John Jordan said.

The previous day, Houston dropped all four of its matches at the West Plains Tournament. The event included teams from Hillcrest, Rolla, Rogersville, Parkview, Forsyth and Salem.

Houston was without three of its top six players.

Last Tuesday, Shea and Michael Castleman earned singles victories in a 7-2 loss to Rolla. Shea won 8-4, and Castleman rolled 8-1.

Ceplina’s 8-0 victory was the lone win for the JV team. Cullen Cantrell lost 8-1, and Alex Kell, Laney Bryant and Terry Wolfe were each defeated 8-0.

The doubles team of Cantrell and Kell lost 8-2.
