Texas County Farm Bureau and the Missouri Conservation Department are teaming up to sponsor an Agricultural Careers Expo on Thursday, May 7, at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds.
The event will inform seventh and eighth grade students about potential agriculture-related careers and courses they would need to take in high school to achieve them.
Eighteen stations will be manned by professionals in their field to show students more
about each career. The stations will include horticulture, feed and seed specialists, fertilizer specialists, viticulture, entomology, farmers and meteorology presented by KY3’s Dave Snider.
Students will be guided from station to station by area FFA students, and they
will also be told about the FFA clubs in the high schools. Stephanie Rust, school coordinator for the conservation department, has been working with teachers, administrators and ag instructors on this first of its kind program in Texas County.
