Houston High School’s Susan Daniels and Karson Peterson of Plato recently won all-expense paid trips to Washington, D.C., through Intercounty Electric’s annual essay contest.

High school juniors from across Intercounty’s service territory gathered in the auditorium at the cooperative’s Licking office March 28 to compete. Each school submitted its top three essay winners. One student from each school won the trip to Washington D.C., and the two runners-up received an all-expense trip to a leadership conference in Jefferson City.

One by one, each student was interviewed on topics relating to rural electric cooperatives and Intercounty.

Other first-place winners were: Benn Sullins, Licking; Katrina Smith, Cabool; William Raney, Mountain Grove; Allyson Preston, Salem; Kyndahl Bertram, Summersville; Susie Dobkins, Rolla; and Megan Boren, St. James.

Runners-up receiving a trip to Jefferson City were: Amanda Mings and Hannah Pounds, Houston; Ben Vesely and Kathryn Massey, Plato; Aytchie Jansen and Grant McDowell, Licking; Katelyn Roberts and Elizabeth Chappell, Cabool; Tavish Lawson, Mountain Grove; Rachel Sirois, Salem; Casey Appleton, Summersville; Leanna Story, Rolla; and Courtney Hofstetter and Emily Stevens, St. James.
