The Houston tennis team romped Licking 8-1 Tuesday for its first victory of the season.
Michael Shea led the trouncing with an 8-0 singles victory. Also winning were Andrew Finn (8-1), Tyler Guynn (8-2), Michael Castleman (8-1) and Megan Graeff (8-2).
In doubles, Guynn and Shea cruised to a 6-0 win. Finn and Jones were victorious 6-3, and Graeff and Alex Ceplina won 6-4.
“It was a good first win,” Houston coach John Jordan said. “We still need to be more consistent hitting the ball solidly. The last week we really concentrated on keeping the ball deep in the court.”
Terry Wolfe and Laney Bryant lost JV singles matches. Cullen Cantrell and Alex Kell lost in doubles.
Last Tuesday, the tennis team lost its season opener 9-0 at Salem.
