A Texas County commissioner remains in a Springfield hospital this week after undergoing surgery for a brain aneurysm.
John Casey was diagnosed last week with the medical ailment created by a blood vessel leaking. On Monday, he had made enough progress to be released from the neuro-intensive care unit of Cox South, but is still under close observation and has not yet been moved to a normal hospital room.
Casey’s mother, Primrose, reported that his progress and the outpouring of support from residents encourage relatives. She noted while they are appreciated, flowers aren’t allowed in his room. She explained the moisture could lead to bacteria, medical experts there said.
Casey, elected in November to a four-year term as associate commissioner, was set to undergo a procedure Tuesday to determine if there are any other problems with vessels in his brain.
