Wayne Arthur Heavin, 87, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Licking Manor Nursing Home.

He was born April 1, 1922, son of Luther and Emma Gaddy Heavin. He and Anna Mary Marsh were married Sept. 22, 1945.

He enjoyed talking about many years of driving a tractor and trailer, quail and deer hunting, maintaining his yard and vegetable garden and fishing with his longtime friend, Carl Benny. He enjoyed camping at the lake and sharing produce from his garden.

He loved God and children, especially grandchildren.

He was a longtime member and deacon at Philadelphia Baptist Church near Edgar Springs. In later years, he was a member and deacon emeritus of First Baptist Church, Licking. He read and studied his Bible and prayed daily.

He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and would soon have received a 50-year pin in the Order of the Eastern Star. He served in the Army. He contributed to the Sonshine Rainbow School, several churches, families and individuals.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Richard Heavin, Martin Heavin, Lloyd Heavin and Ervin Heavin; and a sister, Faye Bates.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Miller; a son, Gerald Heavin; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday, April 13, at Fox Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Gorman, the Rev. Lloyd Heavin, Dr. Wilbur Mobley and Larry Tubbs officiating. Burial with full military honors was in Ozark Memorial Gardens in Rolla.

Donations may be made to First Baptist Church, Licking, or the Sonshine Rainbow School.
