The Houston Area Chamber of Commerce announced last week that it would hold its first annual “Houston Springfest” this Saturday at its fairgrounds on North U.S. 63.

It says the day is planned as an outdoor festival comprised of vendors, entertainment and food. Live music is planned.

The Animal Shelter of Texas County will present its second annual wiener dog races. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m. Races start at 1:30 p.m. There is a $5 entry fee. Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third places. For more information, call Anita Kennedy at 260-3042.

Ozarks Older Iron Club also will participate. Inflatable rides and craft and food booths are planned.

The Houston Lions Club will sponsor a pancake breakfast from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Lions Den on North U.S. 63.
