John Richard Dobelman, 73, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, from esophageal cancer.

He was born Nov. 21, 1935, in Old Monroe, son of Adolph F. Dobelmann and Agnes Fanning Dobelmann. Following two previous marriages, he and Helen Kindernay were married Oct. 12, 1979.

He worked in commercial printing from age 17 until he retired in 2007. He and his wife, Helen, owned and operated Dobelman’s Residential Care Facility I in Summersville for about 10 years.

He was a member of the St. John’s Vianney Catholic Church in Mountain View, where he served as an usher.

He liked making chili for church, friends and fund-raisers. He enjoyed fishing, shuffleboard, spending time with his children and family and the St. Louis Rams.

He was preceded in death by his parents and second wife, Helen Virginia.

Survivors include his wife, Helen of the home; a sister, Sister Rose Marie Dobelman, CPPS, of O’Fallon; six children, John Dobelman, Victoria Mosley and Lawrence Dobelman of St. Louis, Michael Dobelman of Oak Harbor, Wash., Darren Dobelman of Wichita, Kan., and Ryan Dobelman of Summersville; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many cousins and friends.

Services were Saturday, May 2, at St. John’s Catholic Vianney Church with Father Ernest Marquart officiating. Burial was in St. John’s Vianney Cemetery under the direction of Bradford Funeral Home.
