Samantha Jones earned the Houston tennis team’s lone district victory Friday by beating her male competitor from Mexico, Mo., 6-0, 5-7, 6-3.

Jones dropped her next match 6-2, 6-0 to the No. 4 seeded player from Osage.

“She really represented herself well. Many coaches spoke highly of her,” Houston coach John Jordan said. “She was really tired after that long first match.”

Andrew Finn was paired against the No. 2 singles player from Missouri Military Academy in his opening match and lost 6-0, 6-0.

“He had some good rallies, but he did play the two seed,” Jordan said.

The doubles team of Tyler Guynn and Michael Shea lost their doubles match 6-0, 6-0 to a Salem team.

“We have five of our top six players returning. Good things should happen if the kids will put the time in this summer,” Jordan said.
