A KY3 meteorologist is the speaker Sunday at the Houston High School baccalaureate service. Brandon Beck will address seniors at 6 p.m. at Hiett Gymnasium.
He was born in Searcy, Ark., and spent most of his growing-up yearsin northeast Colorado in the farming community of Holyoke. After graduating from Holyoke High School, Beck moved to Springfield and attended Evangel College, earning a degree in broadcasting. From there, he joined KY3 in 1996 as weekend weathercaster.
While Beck says his love for weather goes back to the age of 7, his formal training didn’t come until he started his career. He holds a certificate of broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University and is a member of the American Meteorological Society. He was awarded “Best Weathercast” by the Missouri Broadcasters Association in 1998.
He says his most memorable moments on the air include the tornado outbreaks of 2003 and 2008. Brandon loves the outdoors, and he and his wife are active members of their church. They have started a health supplement business from their home near Ozark.
He has been married to his wife Cindy for almost 13 years and has three sons: Christian, Caleb and Braden.
