Robert Lee Stewart, 74, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at his home in Salem.
He was born Nov. 3, 1934, in New London, son of Ray Lee Stewart and Sarah Edna Tawney Stewart. He and JoAnn Pruett were married Dec. 16, 1961.
He and his wife raised their children in the St. Louis area. They moved to Salem in 1995.
He served in the armed forces and was honorably discharged in December 1953. He worked at General Motors from 1965 until he retired in 1983. He then worked at U.S. Foodservices for 10 years as a guard before fully retiring in 2007.
Known as “Bob,” he was a jokester and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fred and Roy; and a sister, Helen Taylor.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn; four children, Kem Barbera, Bobbi Stewart, Don Stewart and Michael Stewart; four sisters, Doris Anderson, Mae Dixon, Roberta Dixon and Darlene Weber; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were Thursday, April 20, at Fox Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mark Shipman and Pastor Lindell Decker officiating. Burial was in Boone Creek Cemetery.
