TKO gives local MMA fighter win

Justin Wantland, a mixed martial arts fighter from Licking, scored his second professional victory May 8 with a second-round TKO.

Wantland defeated Josh Strahan of Texas at the 2:11 mark of the second round at the Bricktown Brawl in Oklahoma City.

Wantland, who stands 5 feet, 7 inches and weighs 170 pounds, is 5-0 with a 2-0 professional record. He won his pro debut in November 2007 with a first-round victory by submission.

Wantland also participated in a grappling tournament in Dec 2008, taking third place out of 20 competitors.

Wantland trains under Ken Sparks of Warrior Gym in Rolla. He is sponsored by Chris’s Barber Shop, G & C Trucking, Ervco, Dennis King Trucking, Rene’s Salon, H.A.W.
