Tonight is the kick off for a reading program that will bring books into the home of every local baby born in 2009.

Community Betterment and Arts Council of Houston is sponsoring the “Imagination Library” for those residing in the Houston School District. Children born this year will receive a book in the mail monthly for five years.

More information can be obtained during an event beginning at 6 p.m. at the lower pavilion of Emmett Kelly Park. Any child 0-6 attending will receive a free book, and readers will be in place. There also will giveaways.

The local organization is teaming up with a foundation created by entertainer Dolly Parton to spark reading interest in Houston.

A video explaining the program appears at www.houstonherald.com/video.
