Donald Lee Stewart, 76, died Monday, June 22, 2009.

He was born Dec. 5, 1932, in Hartshorn, son of Oscar Arthur Stewart and Bessie Ellen Day Stewart.

He was an expert sharpshooter while serving in the Army from Nov. 22, 1955, until Nov. 19, 1957. He then served in the Army reserves until Dec. 31, 1961.

He grew up in Hartshorn and worked in many places, including a New Mexico oil rig, Fisher Body, Wagner Electric and owner/operator of a dump truck service. He was also a trucker and member of Teamsters Union.

Upon retiring, he moved back to Hartshorn and farmed on the family homestead, where he enjoyed being with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a wife, Virginia; five brothers, James, Paul, Elmer, Everett and Ervin; three sisters, Ethel, Velma and Virgie; a stepson, Bill; and a nephew.

Survivors include two children, Donald Stewart Jr. of Hartshorn and Lisa Williams of Summersville; six stepchildren, Dane Smith of Florissant, Ed Smith of Dittmer, Fred Smith of Cabool, Rick Smith of Wisconsin, Sue Terrill of Salem and Cindy East of Houston; six grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and numerous step great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members.

Services were Saturday, June 27, at Bradford Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Steelman officiating. Burial with full military honors was in Antioch Cemetery.
