The Houston Fire Department updated the Houston City Council during a meeting Monday night.
Fire Chief Don Rust and a firefighter, Ben Pursifull, outlined training and operation of the department during the short meeting. A mutual aid agreement being signed among departments in the county also was discussed. The city is expected to sign the agreement.
New technology also will join the department, the board heard. A thermal imaging camera has been ordered and will arrive soon. Much of the cost of the $8,200 piece of equipment was paid through a recent vendor contract with Pepsi. The city will pick up the balance of the tab.
