Revenue from sales taxes collected in Texas County were up during the latest monthly distribution, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.

Merchants collect three, half-cent sales taxes. Each totaled about $93,700, which was up about $2,000 each.

Retailers collect half-cent sales taxes for county revenue, maintenance and other operations, as well as debt repayment on the county justice center.

In the first five months of the year, collections on each totaled about $387,500, which is down slightly from a year ago.

The reports are considered a good barometer of economic activity in the region.
