An Oak Crest Drive house that sustained fire damage early Saturday.

An early Saturday morning fire nearly destroyed a Oak Crest Drive home.

Members of the Houston Fire Department were called to a report of the blaze at the home, which is situated just east of Thomasville Road. Authorities said the fire was sparked by a short in an extension cord used to charge a boat.

A truck driver, resident Donald Dooms, was not home at the time. Several nearby homes escaped damage.

On Monday afternoon, the Houston Rural Fire Department was called to a fire at the Betty Robbins residence southeast of Houston on Somoa Road. Smoke and fire damage were reported.
