Sophia Million of Raymondville, puppeteer, performs Grimm's Fairy Tale, "Briar Rose," as of part of the "Fit in Houston" program that encourages exercise and fitness on Thursday nights in Emmett Kelly Park. At right, Million's husband, Chuck.

Houston’s Fit in Houston program was in Emmett Kelly Park on Thursday night. Children were treated to a marionette show.

The program has partnered with area businesses and agencies to address the chronic disease risk factors of physical inactivity, poor nutrition and tobacco use in a special fun action program. Individuals register and receive a Fit in Houston card, walk the Emmett Kelly and Brushy Creek trails, visit with neighbors, purchase a Fit in Houston T-shirt and enjoy refreshments provided by a local sponsor.

Persons of all ages are eligible to participate and enter drawings for a Wii and TV, iPod shuffle and Smartcycle.

The summer-long will culminate with a Fit in Houston ACHIEVE fair Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds, where prizes will be awarded and activities will be provided throughout the day.
