The Houston School District will switch milk suppliers in a move that is estimated to save it about $10,000 annually, the Houston board of education decided Monday.

Reviewing bids from Hiland and Banta to provide milk and other dairy products for the 2009-’10 school year, members opted to approve a proposal from Banta.

In other matters, members:

-Set the district’s annual tax levy hearing for 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at the superintendent’s office.

-Approved payments to teachers participating in the Career Ladder program, which rewards study and development to improve their skills.

-Okayed handbook revisions for each of the buildings for the upcoming year.

-Reviewed proposed changes that clarify what travel expenses are reimbursable when district personnel attend conferences or travel out-of-town on school business.

-Approved the substitute teacher list for the next school year and accepted a bus driver’s resignation.
