Violent storms last Thursday are being blamed for fallen trees and power lines across southern Missouri and for destroying a mobile home in northwest Texas County, seriously injuring the man inside.

Roby fire officials say Matt Hubbard suffered serious head injuries early Thursday morning when he and parts of the structure were flung a quarter mile away. The city’s fire chief says he believes a tornado struck the home and the National Weather Service agrees, saying a damage assessment team classified it as an EF-1 tornado with winds of 95 to 100 miles an hour.

The tornado traveled about three-quarters of a mile to the southeast, damaging two homes and an outbuilding and uprooting numerous trees.

Hubbard was taken to a Fort Leonard Wood hospital and later transferred to University Hospital in Columbia after the tornado on Highway AW.

The fire department originally thought four people were missing. The victim in his distressed state forgot that the rest of his family was in Colorado Springs, Colo.
