Senior Jesse Setters pulls down a pass during drills Friday evening on the final night of the Houston Tigers' week-long football camp.

The Houston Tigers completed a week-long football camp Friday night. Here are a few observations:

– Maybe the biggest note is Kyle Poynter’s absence. The all-state kickoff returner and big-play wideout is not playing his senior season.

– Brad Pounds, a two-way starter at running back and defensive end, also will not play this year, but for different reasons. Pounds has suffered several concussions during his career, and his family decided it was in his best interest not to put his health at risk. Pounds may dress as a placeholder or kicker.

– Numbers are low across the board for the team. May have very few players on the JV team.

– Jesse Setters came out for the football team for the first time. His athleticism alone will add to the Tigers’ skill positions. He is playing wide receiver and safety.

– It looks like sophomore Kyle Jones will take over quarterback duties for departed three-year starter David Weybright. Jones, who started for last year’s JV, is an athletic sophomore who qualified for track sectionals in the high jump.

– It looks like Houston will run the same offense as last year. The Tigers ran all their offensive plays in spread formation with no huddle.
