TIGER TIDBITS: Two starters from last year’s team returned last week to the Tigers. Bobby Campbell started at center in 2008, and Kyle Poynter was the team’s top receiver. He also earned all-state honors as a kick returner. Coach Chris Edwards said the duo will be eligible to play Week 4 against Mountain Grove.

Knetzer and Darin Wade had nine apiece. …Matt Gibby had the game’s lone sack. …Junior Jacob Case is averaging 28.8 yards per kickoff return. …Senior tailback Justin Schmidt has accounted for 255 of the Tigers’ 401 yards of offense. He has carried the ball on 46 of Houston’s 66 running plays.
ABOUT AVA: The Bears thumped Willow Springs 30-7 last week for their first victory. They dropped their opener 21-7 to Marshfield. …Ava is under the direction of first-year coach Daniel Swofford. A native of Mountain Grove, Swofford was an assistant coach and defensive coordinator at Ava for three years before spending last season as the defensive coordinator at Springfield Glendale. He has also coached at Mountain Grove. …Last year’s 27-25 defeat to the Tigers snapped Ava’s two-year winning streak over Houston. The Bears won the previous two contests by a combined score of 83-34.
