Sammie L. Mosley Lockhart, 90, of Dayton, Texas, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at her daughter’s home in Houston.
She was born June 25, 1919, in Beaverton, Ala., daughter of Samuel M. and Mary Ella Cole Mosley. She married Howard S. Lockhart.
She was a graduate of the Sulligent High School. She was a former textile worker and floral shop owner. She was a member of the Alvin Missionary Baptist Church, garden club and women’s quilting clubs. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, Howard; a granddaughter; two sisters, Mae Sullivan and Jessie Taylor; and five brothers, Bruce, Sidney, Grady, Willie B. and Dan Mosley.
Survivors include three daughters, Marcella Neugebauer of Houston, Jackie Silva of Manville, Texas, and Carolyn McDaniel of Dayton, Texas; a sister, Janie Hill of Birmingham, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services are 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Kenefick Southern Baptist Church in Kenefick, Texas. Graveside services are Friday at the Confederate Cemetery in Alvin, Texas, under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home. Local arrangements are under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
