Jewel Frances Bates Weber Sliger, 91, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Licking Park Manor.

She was born June 12, 1918, near Hazelton, daughter of James E. Bates and Lottie Hale Bates.

She and her husband, Carl, owned and operated a service station in Grover for many years. She moved to Licking in 1981 and married Ernest Sliger on Aug. 7, 1993. He died in 2003.

She enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, her car and a dog, Pebbles.

She was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Grover.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; and a sister, Virginia Wilson.

Survivors include two sisters, Ruby of Mountain Home, Ark., and Faye Ammann of Selah, Wash.; a niece and nephew; and two special friends, Lawrence and Silvia Bates of Licking.

Services were Saturday, Nov. 21, at Fox Funeral Home Chapel with Ed Williamson officiating. Burial was in Licking Cemetery.
