Alissa Bowlin scored 16 points and Taylor Franklin added 14 to lead the Houston eighth grade girls past Liberty 48-29 Monday night.

Ahead 8-7 after the first quarter, the Lady Tigers (5-1) outscored Liberty 40-22 the rest of the way.

The victory avenged Houston’s only loss of the season —— a 26-21 setback Nov. 24 at Liberty.

“A much better effort defensively,” Lady Tigers coach John Jordan said. ” We got out and guarded and offensively we handled their halfcourt trap pretty effectively. We moved well without the ball. When we move offensively, we can put up some points.”

The seventh grade remained winless with a 38-18 loss to Liberty. Kylee Elmore led the Lady Tigers with 11 points.

“I keep thinking one of these nights we are going to turn the corner but our halfcourt defense is non-existent and we never run our offense,” Jordan said. “Every team we have played is more physical than we are. It doesn’t help when you shoot 6-27

from the free-throw line.”
