Sierra Weaver and Taylor Franklin scored nine points apiece to lead the Houston eighth grade girls past Liberty 32-29 Tuesday night at the Liberty Tournament.

Houston (7-2) trailed by two at the half and was able to take a one-point advantage into the fourth quarter.

“Tough win. I told the girls before the game I was worried because I didn’t think we were ready to play and we were not,” Houston coach John Jordan said. “We came out flat and didn’t play very smart.”

On Monday, Franklin scored 12 points and Alissa Bowlin had 11 in a 39-27 victory against Mountain Grove in the opening game of the tournament.

Weaver added eight points for Houston, which went on a 17-2 run after trailing 11-3 in the first quarter.

“Their pressure hurt us early but we began throwing over the top of it in the second and third quarter, leading to easy baskets,” Lady Tigers coach John Jordan said. “They got physical with us early in the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to four, leading to some frustration, but I was proud of our kids for continuing to play hard.”
