Four members of the Houston Tigers football team were named to the all-district team this week.
Senior running back Justin Schmidt was a second-team selection. Teammates Cory Scheets (LB), J.R. Knetzer (OL) and Matt Gibby (DL) were honorable mention picks.
Schmidt had rushing, receiving and a defensive score to account for 10 of the Tigers’ 24 touchdowns. He averaged 4.3 yards per carry en route to 675 yards and was second on the team with 17 catches for 266 yards. His final game was one of his best. He carried the ball 28 times for 160 yards and had rushing scores of 5 and 30 yards. He also caught a 38-yard touchdown pass.
Scheets led the Tigers with 80 tackles, including a team-best 10 for losses. He was second on the team with two sacks.
Knetzer was a full-time starter for the first time as a senior at right tackle. He also started at center.
Gibby had five of the Tigers’ nine sacks and nine of his 63 tackles were for losses. He also recovered a team-high four fumbles.
