Frances Pauline Frye, 84, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009.

She was born Feb. 7, 1925, near Mountain View, daughter of Francis Grover Smotherman and Nannie Mitchell Smotherman. She and Edd Frye were married Nov. 13, 1941.

She was a member of Oakside Church and attended faithfully for many years. She worked at Angelica Uniform Factory for 37 years. After retiring, she worked at the Summersville Senior Center before she and her husband moved to the Mountain View area.

Six years ago, she moved into the Mountain View Healthcare, where she resided until her death. She enjoyed living there, making many friends and taking part in activities and games. She won medals in wheelchair races and was a seamstress. She made clothes for her grandchildren and quilts for her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Edd; a stepfather, Bake McIntire; a brother, Howard Smotherman; and two sisters, Belva Jean Smotherman and Vada Sue McIntire.

Survivors include her daughter, Jean Helton of Summersville; a son, Archie Frye of Springhill, La.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; several step grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Nanney and Georgia Boyer of Morton, Wash.; and many nieces, nephews, special cousins and friends.

Services were Saturday, Dec. 26, at Bradford Funeral Home with the Rev. Chester Webster officiating. Burial was in Oakside Cemetery.
