Houston senior Kyle Poynter scored 29 of his season-high 37 points in the first half to lead the Houston Tigers past Lutie 67-48 Monday afternoon in the Cabool Holiday Tournament.
Lucas Cooperman scored 10 points and Jake Scheets had nine for the Tigers, who rebounded from a 38-36 opening-round loss Saturday to Plato.
Poynter heated up early in the second quarter as he scored all but two points during a 15-0 Houston run. He drilled his sixth 3-pointer of the first half just before the buzzer to put the Tigers ahead 42-18.
Poynter had two more triples in the third quarter to finish with eight. He sat out the entire fourth quarter.
On Saturday, the Tigers managed just two fourth-quarter field goals in a 38-26 loss to Plato.
Poynter scored 16 of his game-high 22 points in the second half. Jesse Setters added eight.
After trailing 11-4 early, Houston pulled even at the half, and the game was tied going into the fourth quarter.
It was the second victory of the season for the Eagles against Houston. Plato won the first matchup 52-45 just eight days earlier.
Taylor McNeil led Plato with 10 points. Eric Wood scored nine.
