Kyle Poynter scored 36 points to lead the Houston Tigers past Alton 78-65 on the road Monday night.

Poynter was 15-for-23 at the free-throw line and scored 29 of his season-high point total in the second and third quarters. Justin Buchholz added 12 points.

The Tigers shot 55 foul shots. They connected on 32 of them.

On Friday, Poynter scored 25 points and Jesse Setters scored 18 in a 56-52 loss to Plato.

The Eagles, who trailed by three at the half, pulled even after three quarters and outscored Houston 19-15 down the stretch.

The previous night, Stafford outscored the Tigers 34-19 in the second half to pull away for a 62-43 victory.

Poynter led Houston with 22 points. Setters scored 10.
