Roy Lee Nelson, 64, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at Harry S Truman Veterans’ Hospital in Columbia.

He was born May 29, 1945, in Peoria, Ill., son of Roy E. and Betty Hollis Nelson.

He loved his family and serving his country. He enjoyed laughing, seeing others smile, telling jokes, singing karaoke, dancing, camping, cooking and painting.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William “Wild Bill” Winks.

Survivors include his wife, Rikki Kay Nelson; two sons, Roy Lee Nelson Jr. of Raymondville and Danny Howard Nelson of Ankeny, Iowa; a stepson, Ronald Roy Rupe of St. James; two brothers, Robert “Bobby” Winks and Roy E. Nelson of Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Linda Rupe of Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services were Saturday, Dec. 5, at Fox Funeral Home with Minister Everett Perkins officiating. Burial was in Edgar Springs Cemetery.
