The Houston board of education approved an $84,975 bid Monday that will result in new bleachers for Hiett Gymnasium.
Heartland Seating of Shawnee, Kan., was awarded the bid for the work, which is expected to be done this summer. The new bleachers will have more leg room, and the west side of the gym will have seat backs.
The board also extended the contract of the superintendent after conducting an evaluation. His contract now runs through the 2011-’12 school year.
In other matters, members:
-Will meet Monday, Jan. 25, to conduct interviews for finalists seeking the elementary principal’s position that will open during the next school year. Le Ann Edington is retiring.
-Conducted evaluations of the special services and food service programs.
-Heard from the South Central Regional Professional Development Center in Rolla, which said for the eighth consecutive year the district will be honored with the state’s “Distinction in Performance” award.
