Marvin Jackson Burris, 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at Texas County Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 26, 1929, in Success, son of Frank and Esther Wills Burris. He and Kathern Irene Salyer were married April 16, 1955, in Jackson, Miss.
He grew up in the Success area and attended Gladden Grade School and Houston High School. He was saved as a young man at Gladden Baptist Church in Success. He enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1951 and was discharged in 1953.
He enjoyed music, singing, dancing, camping, gatherings with family and friends and helping others.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Irene of Houston; a daughter, Debbie Burris Richards; a granddaughter; a brother Melvin Burris of Temple, Texas; two sisters, Marlene Burris Hubbs and Mildred Burris Mitchell of Houston; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Wesley Wallace officiating. Visitation is noon until 2 p.m. Burial will be in Ellis Prairie Cemetery.
